How do I use Goggles? Takip et
Goggles for Brave Search is a new, innovative way for users to choose their own ranking algorithm for search queries. By default, Brave Search does not have any hidden algorithms that alter search results to favor any specific domains, political leanings, or any other factors. Goggles puts users in control of how their queries are ranked or filtered when searching.
Using Goggles
To start using Goggles, simply perform a search at search.brave.com and click the Goggles tab on the results page (outlined above). Once selected, a strip of popular Goggles will appear and allow you to apply them to the current query as well as future queries entered. Note that the list of Goggles that appear here is the default list. As you "follow" specific Goggles (more on this below), those will automatically be displayed at the front of the list.
Clicking the Discover more option will display the Goggles page where you can view a full, searchable list of available Goggles that can be applied to your query, follow individual Goggles that interest you, and allow you to create your own (more information on creating custom Goggles at the bottom of this article). Note that not all available Goggles are listed here, but you can use the search bar at the top to find relevant Goggles you may be interested in.
Each box on the Discover more page is a specific Goggle that can be "followed" and subsequently applied to your search queries. You can also view more information on the individual Goggle by clicking on the About this Goggle button in the box. Here you can see the source for the Goggle itself, including all the sites that have been reranked in order to create it, as well as it's related metadata:
To "follow" a Goggle, simply click the + button in the box. A list of "followed" Goggles will appear on the left side of the page for easy tracking. Followed Goggles will also appear first in the strip that appears on the search results page. Once followed, they can be toggled on our off on they can be toggled on or off in the strip:
Applying Goggles to your search
Simply click on the desired Goggle on the strip to have it applied to the current query and observe the change in results. For example, the first screen cap below shows the default (no Goggles applied) search results for "private browsers":
The next screen cap shows the same search query as before, but with the "Tech blogs" Goggles applied:
Observe that the results change drastically when Goggles is applied, removing several entries from the results and narrowing them down to only blog posts from tech-based websites. The selected Goggles will continue to apply to further search queries until they are deactivated.
To deactivate the any currently applied Goggle, click the drop down menu next to it and select See global results. Note that from this menu you can also "unfollow" this Goggle, swap to a different Goggle you're following, or jump to the Create new / Discover page directly:
Creating Custom Goggles
Users can also create their own custom Goggles for use with Brave Search. To submit your custom created Goggles, click the Create your own Goggles option, then enter the Goggles URL and hit Submit on the next page.
