Leo's customization and memory features allow you to create a more personalized AI experience by setting your preferences and storing information that Leo will remember across conversations. These features help Leo provide more relevant, contextual responses tailored specifically to you.

As a privacy-first company, Brave ensures that your customization data and memories remain completely private to you. All personalization information is stored locally on your device and adheres to Brave’s no-logs, no-retention data privacy policy, maintaining Brave's commitment to protecting your data while enhancing your Leo experience.

What are Leo's customization and memory features?

Customization lets you tell Leo about yourself by setting:

• What Leo should call you (your preferred name)
• What you do (your job or role)
• How Leo should respond to you (preferred tone and communication style)
• Any other personal information you'd like Leo to know about you

Memory allows Leo to remember specific facts, preferences, and information that personalize Leo’s responses even further. These memories are added by you manually. They persist across browser sessions, so Leo can reference them in future conversations to provide more personalized and contextual responses. 

Managing memories

Leo's memory feature stores specific information that you want Leo to remember:

1. Enable User Memory: Toggle on Enable User Memory to allow Leo to use the saved memory information.
2. View existing memories: All stored memories appear as individual items in the Memories section
3. Add new memories: Click Add new memory to manually store specific information you want Leo to remember
4. Edit memories: Click the edit icon (pencil) next to any memory to modify it
5. Delete individual memories: Click the delete icon (trash can) next to any memory to remove it
6. Clear all memories: Click Delete all memories to remove all stored memory data at once

Privacy and security

Your customization data and memories are protected by Brave's privacy-first approach:

Local storage only: All personalization data is stored locally on your device. Your customization settings and memories remain private to you and are only used to enhance your Leo conversations.

Immediate discarding of responses: When you interact with Leo, your customization data and memories are included with your prompts to provide personalized responses. However, conversations are not persisted on Brave's servers. We do not collect identifiers that can be linked to you (such as IP address). Responses generated are discarded after they're generated, and not used for model training; no personal data is retained.

Optional features: Customization and memory features require explicit opt-in before any data is processed. You can enable or disable these features at any time.

No login requirement: Users do not need to create a Brave account to use these personalization features with the free version of Leo.

Unlinkable subscription: If you sign up for Leo Premium, you're issued unlinkable tokens that validate your subscription when using Leo. This means that Brave can never connect your purchase details with your usage of the product, an extra step that ensures your activity is private to you and only you. The email you used to create your account is unlinkable to your day-to-day use of Leo, making this a uniquely private credentialing experience.

Complete user control: You can edit or delete individual memories, clear all personalization data, or disable these features entirely through the settings interface.

Secure information storage: While these features allow you to store personal information, Brave's privacy protections ensure this data remains in your control. However, as with any personal information, use good judgment about what you choose to remember - avoid storing highly sensitive data like passwords or financial account details.

Troubleshooting

If Leo isn't using your customization or memories:

• Verify that Enable Leo Customization and/or Enable User Memory are toggled on in settings
• Check that you've saved your customization changes
• Try starting a new conversation to see the personalization take effect

If you want to start fresh:

• You can clear all personalization data by going to Leo settings and selecting Clear Leo data
• Note that this will also delete your chat history and all customization settings

If you're not seeing the features:

• Ensure you're using Brave Browser version 1.82 or higher
• The features are available on Desktop and Android platforms

Managing your data

You have complete control over your personalization data:

• Individual control: Edit or delete specific memories and customization fields as needed
• Full reset: Use "Delete all memories" to clear memory data, or "Clear Leo data" in main Leo settings to remove all Leo data including customization settings
